LECCE
Called the Florence of the south, Lecce is a treasure of culture, history and architecture. Lecce is also the capital of Baroque style, displayed in its churches, palaces and monuments. In the historical centre, Piazza Sant Oronzo, visitors can admire the old amphitheatre dating back to the second century A.D., together with, the 'Column of S. Oronzo', dedicated to the saint that saved the town from the plague and donated by the city of Brindisi. The Sedile Palace, centre of civic administration in ancient times, also stands nearby.
